SPARK and Education Above All Foundation teaming up to launch Dynamic Futures Programme: Syrian Refugees and Palestinian Expansion.
This programme is premised on furthering the basic rights of Syrian and Palestinian youth affected by the crisis or occupation to enable them to enjoy access to higher education and empowerment opportunities. With hundreds of thousands of Syrian youth applying for only handful overseas scholarships, new regional approaches are much needed to scale up access to higher education, particularly in Syria’s neighbouring countries (Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon). Through a holistic multi-faceted approach, it aims at building a cadre of educated and trained leaders who are civic-minded, intellectually able, and professionally skilled to become community, business and national leaders of the future. SPARK aims to target 800 students of underserved backgrounds providing the essential building blocks through economic empowerment and leadership and development to actualize their potential by overcoming socioeconomic, political and cultural limitations and enable them to become productive members in the society. SPARK and Education Above All believe this must happen as soon as possible so another year does not go by with Syrian and Palestinian youth missing out on the opportunities of higher education.
The programme will operate in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and West Bank & East Jerusalem. It will attempt the following outcomes:
• Postsecondary Syrian youth refugees and Palestinian youth through the Dynamic Futures Programme will access higher education as well as overcoming the political and socioeconomic obstacles that deprive them from access to market-relevant educational advancement.
• Dynamic Future Programme Scholarship graduates, through economic empowerment, leadership and development, students affairs will have opportunities to engage productively in rebuilding their societies and providing leadership within and outside of their own communities.
• Dynamic Futures Programme Scholarship graduates will be enabled through a visible multi-faceted, well-balanced advocacy campaign to communicate better key challenges facing refugees and Palestinians’ right to education.
The mission of the Dynamic Futures Programme is to strike the right balance between access to education and the strategic economic empowerment, leadership and developments and multifaceted students affairs component, to create a global acclaimed scholarship programme that has a direct impact on improving the livelihoods of Syrian refugees and Palestinian youth and prepare them to contribute to the rebuild of their countries of origin and local communities. The programme will have an impact far beyond its direct beneficiaries. It is designed to address the Syrian refugees/IDP population in countries that have been affected by a crisis and where they suffer from lack of access to education and employment opportunities.
