Turkey hosts the highest number of Syrian refugees with a number of over 3.5 million, the majority of which live outside camps in urban areas. Over 500,000 people in the age group 18-24 have fled Syria, with estimates of over 100,000 in Turkey and less than 5% now have access to higher education.

To respond growing higher education demand, SPARK established its presence in Turkey in 2012, to run projects in Syria and to support the Syrian community in Turkey. Since then, Turkey office has set up 5 higher education institutes inside Syria, accommodating hundreds of students, and has offered a wide range of activities for Syrian students in Turkey. Currently, SPARK is successfully in partnership with three major universities in Turkey; Gaziantep University, Harran University, and Mustafa Kemal University. Besides providing scholarhips to more than two hundred Syrian students, SPARK also offers to scholarship holders additional components such as student services&affairs, civic leadership&advocacy, and economic empowerment training, and workshops.

After successfully organizing a Summer University in 2013, SPARK continued to organize a Winter University the year after. Together with the UK based Asfari foundation, SPARK set up the Gaziantep Youth Entrepreneurship Programme to assist 100 students in setting up their own businesses. In cooperation with Gaziantep University, Spark also organized the 10 week Conflict Sensitive Project Cycle Management Summer Course for 50 Syrian students. Moreover,
